Bank Verification Number (BVN)

The Bank Verification Number commonly called BVN is a biometric identification system implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria to curb or reduce illegal banking transactions. It is a modern security measure in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 1958 to reduce fraud in the banking system. The BVN is almost as important as your account number as you can no longer carry out certain transactions in a Nigerian Bank without it.

When you provide BVN as part of your profile details, you will no longer be required to upload documents for certification now or in future.

If you've forgotten your BVN, retrieve it by doing the following - Dial *565*0# on your mobile phone to retrieve your BVN

Certify With BVN
Every user must Certify to use OnlineNaira, but we allow the use of the Nigerian Bank Verification Number to certify your account so that there is no need to upload a photo id or address proof. To certify with BVN, login and click on SETTINGS and then MANAGE PROFILE. Scroll to the bottom and add your BVN as shown in the screenshot:

Submit the changes by clicking on the button - CLICK TO CONFIRM PROFILE CHANGE NOW!

As soon as you have added your BVN, your account would be Certified temporarily until you VALIDATE your BVN. Do not click on the VALIDATE link until you have a minimum of N150 in your account.

To validate your BVN, we charge a fixed fee of N150. The fee makes it possible for us to access Goverment API in order to check if your BVN is correct and has the same details as you have provided in your Profile.
